About The Position

The Retail Manager oversees all retail foodservice operations for an acute care hospital, including the cafeteria, coffee shop, and catering services. Reporting to the Director of Food & Nutrition Services, this role is responsible for ensuring a high‑quality, patient‑ and guest‑focused dining experience while maintaining operational excellence. The Retail Manager supports menu development, marketing initiatives, staffing, financial controls, ordering, and inventory management within Food & Nutrition Services.

Requirements

  • One to three years of retail foodservice management experience, depending on education and training
  • Strong knowledge of food trends, quality standards, sanitation, food cost controls, marketing, and presentation
  • Proven experience managing cash retail operations
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage all levels of stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of budgeting, accounting, and financial practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, internet systems, and point‑of‑sale platforms

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Service Management, Hospitality, or related field preferred; Associate degree with three years of related experience acceptable
  • Experience in healthcare, institutional, or contract‑managed foodservice environments preferred
  • P&L responsibility and financial acumen highly desirable
  • Retail marketing and promotional experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee daily retail operations, special events, and catering functions
  • Recruit, train, coach, and supervise hourly team members
  • Maintain cash controls, payroll records, and financial accountability
  • Ensure exceptional customer satisfaction and positive public relations through efficient use of resources
  • Direct staff to deliver scheduled retail services in alignment with corporate policies, procedures, and presentation standards
  • Train team members in customer service, portion control, cashier operations, and food safety/sanitation
  • Complete all required daily, weekly, and monthly operational and financial reports accurately and on time
  • Communicate effectively with leadership, team members, patients, visitors, and families
  • Implement and enforce cash‑handling standards to safeguard company funds and prevent loss
