About The Position

KC Pet Project is seeking a full-time Retail and Cafe Operations Supervisor to oversee the daily operational success of their guest spaces, including the retail store and a small coffee shop/cafe. This role involves managing team scheduling, inventory tracking, and product ordering under the direction of the Chief Development Officer. The supervisor will also focus on creating a welcoming environment for visitors, supporting the Adoptions Team, and ensuring smooth operations. The position requires a "Helpful First" mindset, independence, strong communication, and adaptability to a varying schedule, including weekends and holidays. The work environment may involve exposure to zoonotic diseases, noise, extreme temperatures, and hazardous materials, requiring the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and sustain periods of standing, bending, and stooping.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • At least 6 months prior customer service experience
  • Ability to obtain a Kansas City, Missouri Food Handlers card within the first 60 days of employment
  • Must be able to stand for long periods
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to navigate the unique emotional landscape of animal welfare
  • Proven history of reliability and excellent attendance

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and create shift schedules for the Retail and Barista team.
  • Provide direct shift coverage on the floor in the retail store or coffee shop.
  • Monitor retail and cafe inventory levels and place replenishment orders.
  • Oversee the daily flow of the retail space and coffee shop, ensuring accurate point-of-sale transactions and cash handling.
  • Guide and support volunteers by delegating daily tasks and providing customer service guidance.
  • Assist new pet owners by providing education-based product recommendations.
  • Partner with the Canine Adoptions team to assist with the Welcome Desk as needed.
  • Keep retail and cafe displays stocked, clean, and organized.
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment that complies with food safety standards and shelter protocols.
  • Actively step in to serve guests as a Barista and perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Salary: $44,000 - $50,000/year
