About The Position

The Retail Associate works in the Battleship Missouri Memorial Battleshop (Gift Shop), providing efficient and welcoming customer service while supporting retail operations. The role includes helping guests, maintaining displays and supplies, processing sales, merchandising products, and keeping the work area clean, safe, and organized. The position is primarily day shift, with availability required for one weekend day, military holidays, and occasional night shifts.

Requirements

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to understand and implement written and verbal instructions.
• Basic computer knowledge, including basic POS systems and Excel.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift and handle boxes weighing 10–35 pounds, and perform the job’s stated functions.
• Ability to work varied hours and days, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Ability to pass a background check required to receive employee access to Ford Island from Joint Base Pearl Harbor.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill guests’ needs quickly and efficiently.
• Inform retail leadership promptly when item quantities are low or guests make special requests, and work with the warehouse team to pull and fill items as needed.
• Relay relevant customer comments directly to a supervisor.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Uphold company policies and procedures.
• Perform the steps of SSA EXTRA Guest Service to create a memorable experience for every guest and client.
• Check and neatly, accurately, and promptly stock supplies in counter areas, floor displays, floor stands, and cabinets.
• Clean tables, chairs, and equipment as needed.
• Keep counters and floors in the work or service area clean and free of debris.
• Maintain a balanced cash drawer when assigned.
• Merchandise products to maximize sales and increase sales through promotions or suggestive selling.
• Support company and client sustainability and conservation guidelines, demonstrate knowledge of related efforts, and help teach unit staff as needed.
• Support community efforts through hiring, engagement activities, and opportunities to give back.
• Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.
