About The Position

The Retail Associate works in the Battleshop gift shop at the Battleship Missouri Memorial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, serving as an ambassador for the USS Missouri and supporting the Memorial’s mission. The role focuses on welcoming guests, providing efficient and memorable service, processing purchases, maintaining merchandise and displays, and keeping the shop clean, safe, organized, and welcoming. Associates may also support warehouse replenishment, promote merchandise, and communicate customer feedback and inventory needs to retail leadership.

This is a part-time position with primarily daytime shifts and flexible scheduling. The role requires availability for at least one weekend day per week, military holidays, and occasional evenings; hours may vary and may include nights, weekends, or holidays as needed. The shop is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. The associate reports to Retail Supervisor(s), the Assistant Retail Operations Manager, and the Retail Operations Manager.

Requirements

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work well on a team and independently, and to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Basic computer skills, including POS systems and Excel; the posting also mentions email and internet skills.
• Ability to pass a background check for Ford Island access.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift, move, and handle boxes weighing approximately 10–35 pounds; the introductory posting specifies lifting up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders and work indoors and outdoors.
• Availability for varied hours and days, including at least one weekend day per week, military holidays, and occasional evenings; nights, weekends, and holidays may be required as needed.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests and provide memorable, prompt, and efficient service, including following SSA EXTRA Guest Service steps.
• Assist guests with purchases and operate the point-of-sale system; maintain a balanced cash drawer when assigned.
• Stock merchandise and supplies, maintain displays, and work with the warehouse team to pull and replenish items as needed.
• Notify retail leadership when inventory is low or guests make special requests, and relay relevant customer comments to a supervisor.
• Keep the shop, counter, floors, tables, chairs, and equipment clean, safe, organized, and free of debris.
• Merchandise products to maximize sales and increase sales through promotions and suggestive selling.
• Follow company policies and procedures and support company and client guidelines.
• Support sustainability and conservation efforts, understand how they apply to business operations, and help teach unit staff as needed.
• Support community engagement and opportunities to give back.
• Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.
