About The Position

The Restorative Practices Associate is a campus-based position responsible for supporting students with the disciplinary response of Mundo Verde with restoration. This can include temporary removal from class and safe restraint. This position assists teachers and staff with de-escalation and restorative practices. The Restorative Practices Associate provides assistance in supporting children in crisis and can support students with behaviors that must be addressed outside of the classroom. The Restorative Practices Associate is supervised by one of the campus principals.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or 48 college credits
  • At least 1 year of direct work with children aged 3-12 years old required.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of restorative justice/restorative practices.
  • Experience with trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and de-escalate challenging situations.
  • Experience in an urban school setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to be an independent solutions-oriented problem-solver.
  • Willing, hard-working attitude with a growth mindset toward self, students, and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of personal work and the school mission.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to student behavioral incidents using restorative approaches whenever possible.
  • De-escalate challenging situations while maintaining student dignity.
  • Assist administrators and teachers with behavior interventions.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, social workers, special education staff, instructional assistants, and administrators to support student success.
  • Communicate with families regarding restorative processes when requested by school leadership.
  • Partner with staff to create consistent behavior expectations across the school.
  • Build positive relationships with students and serve as a trusted adult.
  • Facilitate restorative conversations, circles, and conferences to address conflict and repair harm.
  • Support students in developing self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Provide proactive behavioral support to students in classrooms, hallways, recess, lunch, arrival, and dismissal.
  • Conduct check-ins and check-outs with students identified for additional behavioral or social-emotional support plans.
  • Monitor student progress and collaborate on behavior intervention plans.
  • Lead community-building circles in classrooms and small groups.
  • Teach restorative language and practices to students.
  • Promote accountability by helping students reflect on their actions and make amends when appropriate.
  • Support reintegration meetings for students returning from suspension or extended absences.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings.
  • Meet regularly with supervisor to evaluate progress, growth and performance using Mundo Verde’s evaluation process.
  • Establish contact and build a trusting relationship with families, staff, and school personnel.
  • Complete administrative duties as needed, such as target population tracking, data entry, filing, observation and reporting.
  • Support school safety by assisting with student arrival and dismissal procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
