About The Position

The Restaurant Sommelier is responsible for managing the wine program, including issuing, opening, and serving wine and champagne. This role involves interacting with guests to answer questions about wine origins, vintages, and styles, as well as maintaining the wine list and MICROS system. The Sommelier will also be tasked with pairing wines with menu items, attending wine tastings, developing vendor relationships, and requesting new wines and products. Additionally, they will create and update wine lists, design and implement wine promotions, monitor and replenish wine cellar inventory, and train staff on wine knowledge. The position also includes conducting vintage and BIN number checks, staff wine tastings, and ensuring the security of alcoholic beverages and storage areas, all while adhering to responsible alcohol service laws and maintaining accurate records.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of related work experience.
  • No supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Issue, open, and serve wine/champagne bottles.
  • Answer guest questions or concerns regarding the origin, vintage, and style of various wines.
  • Update and maintain wine list and MICROS system.
  • Pair and suggest wines that will best complement menu items.
  • Attend wine tastings and develop relationships with vendors.
  • Request new wines and products.
  • Create and update wine lists.

  • Train and educate server and bartender staff.

  • Follow all state and local laws for serving alcohol responsibly.
  • Maintain accurate spill sheet.
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager.
  • Complete safety training and certifications.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
  • Protect company assets.
  • Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards.
  • Anticipate and address guests’ service needs.
