About The Position

The Restaurant Host is responsible for greeting customers, managing the waiting list, answering phones, scheduling reservations, and assisting with various front-of-house and back-of-house tasks to ensure a positive dining experience. This role also involves cross-training in other positions such as Server Assistant, Food Expeditor, and Buffet line. The host must maintain a neat and organized environment, adhere to sanitation procedures, and learn the food and beverage menu. Additional duties include assisting servers, cleaning, and managing the flow of guests.

Requirements

  • Skills of reading body language to establish when the clients want their order to be taken.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull required load (usually about 50lbs.).
  • Math skills required (basic level).
  • At least 1-2 years’ experience in serving.
  • Knowledge of Point of Sales System.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers as soon as they walk through the door and thank departing guests for coming in.
  • Maintain a neat, organized front-of-house environment.
  • Adhere to sanitation processes and procedures.
  • Maintain waiting list of patrons with accurate wait time, while managing the flow of guests between different stations to ensure even workloads for wait staff.
  • Assist with opening/closing tasks and side work as needed.
  • Learn food and beverage menu.
  • Answer phones and schedule reservations for small and large parties.
  • Assist in cleaning tabletops.
  • Take calls for food to go.
  • Collect money and credit cards.
  • Follow cleaning procedures (Sweep, Mop, Windows, etc.).
  • Observe restaurant guests to ensure high quality service (refills, etc.).
  • Work with restaurant colleagues to create a positive dining experience for guests.
  • Clear and sanitize all dirty tables after guest leave.
  • Clean and organize workspace, tables, silverware, and buss cart.
  • Sweep floor after each guest leaves.
  • Take all silverware, plates, glassware to dishwasher.
  • Alert servers to guests in need of attention.
  • Roll silverware.
  • Assist servers/bartenders with water, bread, butter, soups and salads.
  • Restock dishes for line cooks at the countertop.
  • Ensure orders are being cooked in a timely fashion, so that all orders for a table are ready at the same time and make sure that once the food is cooked, servers run food to the table while it's warm and ready.
  • Job rotation of Server Assistant, Food Expeditor, and Buffet line.
  • Cross training.
