About The Position

The Bureau of Community Awareness, Action, Response, and Engagement (BCAARE)’s Community Response and Engagement Unit (CREU) is comprised of Behavioral Health Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (BHOEPR), Response and Engagement Team (RET),and Triage. CREU clinicians and peers deliver prevention and intervention services to promote mental health, support individual and community adjustment from chronic and acute trauma, support community resilience, and promote community connection. CREU teams assess, assign, and answer requests for behavioral health response, engage communities to provide behavioral health public education and connection to services, and prepare public health staff, first responder personnel, and the public for response to and recovery from events impacting New York City and local communities. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Response and Engagement Team(RET) Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating a multidisciplinary team that responds to urgent community needs, including crises related to public health, behavioral health, and housing instability.

Requirements

• A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
• A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
• A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
• Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above.
• Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of research and evaluation design and implementation.
• 5 years direct service experience working with populations facing high risks for poor health outcomes, including individuals who are unhoused, have justice-involvement, and/or are experiencing health, mental health, and substance abuse issues.
• At least 2 years of direct supervisory experience in the behavioral health field.
• Demonstrated ability to incorporate best practices for engagement, de-escalation and peer intervention services.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with best practices around risk management, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and trauma responsive care.
• Experience supervising peers and familiarity with peer models.
• Significant provider experience in behavioral health treatment and/or services.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with computer technology, including Microsoft suite.
• Demonstrated readiness to apply creative problem-solving, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and employ industrious application to tasks.
• Experience in organizational skills such as logical models and strategic planning.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and evaluating program policies and procedures
• Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor staff.
• Monitor data entry by RET staff, ensuring data integrity and compliance with established procedures and reporting expectations.
• Participate with BCAARE’s evaluation team to review outcomes throughout program duration.
• Evaluate and monitor monthly progress by creating and reviewing program and productivity metrics.
• Integrate evidence-based clinical and research knowledge and strategies supporting community mental health into project activities and initiatives.
• Participate in the design and management of evaluation plans for RET including the creation of tools and the development of effective data collection systems and processes for monitoring and reporting on internal and contractor program progress and milestone achievement.
• Troubleshoot challenges, issues or concerns that might arise and escalate issues to the ED for direction.
• Coordinate with BCAARE’s Office of Data Aggregation, Translation, and Analysis (ODATA), Office of Strategy and Operations, and other teams to review data accuracy, and contribute to data collection processes and analysis, and program development and strategic planning based on data findings.
• Follow up and maintain working relationships with NYPD, DHS, SSPs, local CBOs, and other key stakeholders to identify opportunities for coordination and identify contact points to connect community members to services.
• Contribute to the interpretation of RET program data to support data-informed decision-making for RET goals and program design.
• Hold at least weekly individual supervision with assigned supervisees and coordinate routine group supervision and after-action discussions.
• Attend and contribute to all CREU team, cross- bureau, and division-wide meetings.
• Communicate clearly and purposefully with ED and where appropriate, with other team leads, the AC, and other division leadership.
• Prepare routine and ad-hoc reports as requested by the AC, liaising with ODATA as needed.
• Attend to other tasks assigned by the ED or AC.
