About The Position

In this exciting role, the Respite Counselor will work as part of a team in this acute care residence. The Respite Counselor will provide guidance, education, supervision, and direct supports to allow consumers to maintain their physical and emotional health, live safely in the community and develop the skills necessary to return to independent living. Interactions between staff and consumers will be guided by an appreciation for those being served as unique individuals and adults, with the expectation and goal of crisis or situational stabilization. The Respite programs provide both short and long-term care for persons experiencing mental health, substance use disorder, and co-occurring disorders who might otherwise require treatment in an inpatient setting and would benefit from structured stabilization, support, care coordination, and treatment planning.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate in and comprehend the English language.
  • Ability to clearly document consumer progress and activities in program records.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to function independently.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Basic computer fluency, including Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Safe driving record.
  • Regular access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Bachelors Degree or Associate Degree with one years experience or High School Diploma and three years related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance, education, supervision, and direct supports to consumers.
  • Assist consumers in maintaining their physical and emotional health.
  • Support consumers in living safely in the community.
  • Help consumers develop skills necessary to return to independent living.
  • Engage in interactions guided by an appreciation for consumers as unique individuals and adults.
  • Work towards crisis or situational stabilization for consumers.
  • Provide structured stabilization, support, care coordination, and treatment planning for persons experiencing mental health, substance use disorder, and co-occurring disorders.
