About The Position

The Baby Fold has been successfully wrapping services around children and families since 1902, offering life-critical support such as foster care, special education, early childhood programming, and post-adoption support. The Baby Fold is a unique resource with a strong and enduring heritage. We care for our youngest citizens so they can be blessed with loving homes, stable lives, and the futures they deserve. The Respite Camp Counselor is a part-time position. The Counselor is responsible for providing 24-hour supervision of children in respite care established by The Baby Fold’s Respite Program. Demonstrates an ability to apply trauma-informed principles and integrates them into daily practice. Communicates effectively and promotes collaborative problem solving by demonstrating care and respect in considering the diverse experiences and perspectives of others.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • One year experience working with children.
  • Willing and available to work evenings and weekends.
  • Good emotional and physical health.
  • Physical ability to maintain the safety and well-being of children for whom there is responsibility.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, staff, parents/guardians, and necessary collateral contacts.
  • Demonstrated competence in serving a culturally diverse population and a diverse workforce.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for job responsibilities, including the ability to drive to and from camp as needed, a valid driver’s license, and use of a personal vehicle with adequate insurance.
  • Must pass necessary background checks.
  • Mission-oriented and willing to apply The Baby Fold’s standards and beliefs to the performance of job duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and skill in utilizing trauma-informed approaches to working with children preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of Children: Models and maintains high health and safety standards; communicates and models appropriate behavior, language and hygiene; structures and intervenes in individual and group dynamics to promote growth and self-esteem in children. Is responsible for supervision, health and safety of the children and dealing with any personal or emotional care that a child may need.
  • Record Keeping: Completes required camp paperwork such as individual client reports as needed.
  • Community Relations: Represents the agency in a positive light to active and potential participant families, camp facility representatives, referral and funding sources, and the general public.
  • Professional Responsibilities: Works cooperatively with other team members; communicates any concerns to on-site supervisor; Obtains, attends and applies relevant training within the timelines required and assumes other duties as assigned.
