About The Position

This position is responsible for staff and workload management within the Respiratory Care department, ensuring daily assignments are made and completed. The supervisor evaluates staffing resources, makes adjustments as needed, and serves as a consultant to physicians, nurses, and department staff on clinical practice matters. They also maintain knowledge of subordinate skills, conduct performance evaluations, and enforce hospital and department policies. Responsibilities include responding to employee issues, taking disciplinary action when necessary, participating in the blood gas program, generating charges, and completing other assigned duties and special projects. Secondary duties may include maintaining patient records, ensuring proper equipment and supply utilization, participating in quality assurance activities, and providing respiratory care services as needed.

  • Must be able to generate charges when appropriate.
  • Must be able to complete other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Must be able to maintain all department records regarding patient services, statistical data and other related materials in an accurate, up-to-date condition.
  • Must be able to ensure the appropriate utilization of equipment and supplies.
  • Must be able to monitor equipment availability and make minor repairs and adjustments as needed.
  • Must be able to actively participate in department Quality Assurance and Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
  • Must be able to participate as an active member of committees as assigned.
  • Must be able to provide respiratory care services for all age groups and all patient types as the need arises.

Responsibilities

  • Makes all daily work assignments for Respiratory Care staff and assures completion of assignments and department work calendars.
  • Evaluates staffing resources on shift and makes adjustments using overtime or time off as appropriate.
  • Serves as a consultant to physicians, nurses and department staff on matters of the clinical practice of Respiratory Care.
  • Evaluates physician's orders upon request of staff and makes suggestions for changes in care plans if appropriate.
  • Maintains current knowledge of subordinate's skills and job performance; performs objective and substantiated evaluation of staff in a timely fashion; and provides constructive suggestions for improving performance.
  • Enforces all hospital and department policies.
  • Responds to all employee problems on their shift and serves as a catalyst for resolution of the problem.
  • Takes disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Informs Manager and maintains records of all counseling and verbal reprimands for future reference.
  • Participates on blood gas program by ensures ABG equipment maintenance and QA are completed and through active participation on the blood gas committee.
  • Generates charges when appropriate.
  • Completes other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Maintains all department records regarding patient services, statistical data and other related materials in an accurate, up-to-date condition.
  • Ensures the appropriate utilization of equipment and supplies.
