The Respiratory Therapy Student assumes responsibility for performing patient care activities and other tasks that contribute to high-quality, safe, and effective patient care, such as executing protocols, administering respiratory care, and educating patients, families and other care providers. This role involves administering, monitoring, and assessing the effectiveness of respiratory care for inpatients and outpatients of all developmental and maturational levels under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. The student will use independent judgment in applying respiratory care protocols and demonstrate accountability for their actions, decisions, and learning needs, while maintaining a patient-centered focus and supporting the hospital's mission, goals, and values. Effective communication with physicians, health system staff, patients, and families is essential, as is the ability to react appropriately under stress and demonstrate flexibility.
