The Respiratory Therapy Student assumes responsibility for performing patient care activities and other tasks that contribute to high-quality, safe, and effective patient care, such as executing protocols, administering respiratory care, and educating patients, families and other care providers. This role involves administering, monitoring, and assessing the effectiveness of respiratory care for inpatients and outpatients of all developmental and maturational levels under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. The student will use independent judgment in applying respiratory care protocols, demonstrate accountability for their actions and learning needs, and maintain a patient-centered focus. They will interact with physicians and other health system staff, communicate effectively with patients and providers, and educate patients and family members on cardio-respiratory topics. The role also includes assisting with patient ambulation and moving equipment.
