About The Position

Under the supervision of the Technical Director, this position ensures that all respiratory equipment is processed and in operational order. The role involves maintaining an inventory of supplies, parts, and medications related to respiratory care services, and distributing portable oxygen cylinders to specified patient care areas. The extern will interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Responsibilities include disassembling, washing, disinfecting, sterilizing, and reassembling respiratory equipment according to department infection control policy and procedure. The extern will also maintain proper inventory levels of consumable supplies, parts, medical gases, and medications, collaborating with the Respiratory Care Supervisor for storeroom, pharmacy, and outside vendor needs. Additionally, the role requires maintaining an adequate level and appropriate function of equipment such as ventilators, compressors, croup tents, flowmeters, and gas regulators to meet patient demand.

Requirements

  • Student currently enrolled in an accredited respiratory program
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Good self-direction and motivational qualities are necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate's degree or equivalent is desirable.
  • One year experience in materials handling, equipment servicing, and/or direct patient contact highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Disassembles, washes, disinfects, sterilizes, and reassembles respiratory equipment as per department infection control policy and procedure
  • Maintains proper inventory levels of consumable supplies, parts, medical gases, and medications.
  • Collaborates with Respiratory Care Supervisor in initiating storeroom, pharmacy, and outside vendor
