About The Position

The Respiratory Therapy Assistant (RTA) is responsible for verifying demographic and financial information from patients to ensure reimbursement requirements are met. This role involves verifying patient eligibility for insurance benefits, including Medicare, Medical Assistance, and various third-party payers, to ensure adequate and timely reimbursement. The RTA is also responsible for daily insurance verification, prior authorization, and correct posting of charges for respiratory home care, home medical equipment and supplies, and contract billing (via Sales Order creation) for their assigned caseload. This position represents Company services to the public, has direct patient contact, and provides professional and courteous service. The RTA works under the general supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Supervisor but operates with a significant degree of independence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three years of experience in a Home Medical Equipment setting required.
  • Customer service experience required.
  • Ability to learn and competently work with coworkers, referral sources, and patients.
  • Ability to learn and work with computer programs such as Health Link and Brightree.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology and abbreviations.

Nice To Haves

  • Scheduling experience preferred.
  • Team lead experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Verify demographic and financial information from patients to ensure reimbursement requirements are met.
  • Verify patient eligibility for insurance benefits (Medicare, Medical Assistance, third-party payers) for adequate and timely reimbursement.
  • Perform daily insurance verification, prior authorization, and correct posting of charges for respiratory home care, home medical equipment and supplies, and contract billing.
  • Create Sales Orders for assigned caseload of patients.
  • Represent Company services to the public and provide professional and courteous service to patients.
  • Review referral data for compliance and appropriateness of insurance coverage for home medical equipment.
  • Create orders in Brightree for PAP equipment and supplies, PAP Machine Intake, Overnight Oximetry, POC, and SD cards download.
  • Communicate federal regulations regarding durable medical equipment and supplies to customers (patients, caregivers, hospital employees, contracted insurances, businesses).
  • Attend workshops, meetings, and seminars to stay updated on changes in legislation, regulations, and industry practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
