About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide leadership in all Respiratory Care procedures within a critical care environment. This role involves practicing evidence-based medicine through respiratory care protocols, functioning at a role model level, and participating in quality, research, and education assignments. The Respiratory Therapist will apply the respiratory care process to plan and manage the care of complex patients comprehensively, assist in developing and meeting key Pillar outcomes and system improvement goals, and serve as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers to ensure safe and equitable healthcare provision. The position also ensures evidence-based care, continuously monitors patient outcomes, and furthers professional growth by engaging in learning activities according to Board of Respiratory Care standards. This is a night shift position.

  • LIC-Registered Respiratory Therapist - Tennessee
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program
  • 1 year of experience

  • Advanced Respiratory Therapeutic Procedures: Demonstrates the uppermost levels of expertise in applying respiratory therapeutic procedures in challenging and complex situations. Often takes a lead role in highly pressurized situations when there is a need to achieve results. Consistently delivers respiratory therapeutic procedures in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others. Actively participates in outside professional organizations and forums. Contributes in the development of respiratory therapeutic procedures best practices for the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and recommend appropriate treatment and therapy for patients requiring Respiratory Care.
  • Maintain direct involvement with patients participating in research projects or quality improvement projects.
  • Provide formal content approved in-service education for the medical team.
  • Member of the Critical Care Respiratory Care team in a critical care unit or the Emergency Department (VUH). Regularly assigned to a Critical Care Unit or Emergency Department >75% of the worked schedule.
  • Member of one of the following specialty teams: First Breath, NICU, ED, Critical Resource, PICU/PCICU, Acute Care, Pediatric Transport Team (VCH).
  • Collaborate in establishing the plan of care, coordinate and implement respiratory care delivery while anticipating patient care needs.
  • Analyze comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine respiratory care diagnosis.
  • Continually utilize respiratory care guidelines and protocols to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and apply appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
