About The Position

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT), within the Ohio Scope of Practice, provides therapeutic procedures and diagnostic testing to chronically and acutely ill patients requiring respiratory procedures. The role involves providing Respiratory Care, ensuring a patient safety environment, promoting evidence-based practice and quality initiatives, and exhibiting professionalism in patient and family care. Responsibilities may extend beyond routine patient care, including initiating and administering therapeutic procedures, diagnostic tests, and education in accordance with departmental policies. The therapist will also record patient information and assessments, maintain departmental records, precept new employees, and participate in student clinical rotations. A key aspect of the role is demonstrating knowledge of and ability to maintain respiratory therapy equipment. Effective communication and collaboration with physicians, house staff, and other healthcare disciplines regarding patient care, treatment, and plans of care are essential.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a 2 or 4 year Respiratory Care Program, or completion of additional educational requirements allowing eligibility to obtain registry credentials
  • Ohio Respiratory Care Professional License to practice in the State of Ohio
  • National Board of Respiratory Care credential indicating RRT or CRT
  • Clinical experience in adult and neonatal respiratory therapy procedures such as aerosolized delivery of medication, mechanical ventilation, assisting with intubations and extubations, pulmonary function studies, emergency care, and obtaining and interpreting arterial blood gases
  • Maintain current BLS certification

  • Precept new employees as requested and participate in students clinical rotations
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to maintain respiratory therapy equipment
  • Communicate pertinent clinical information and collaborate with physicians, house staff and other health care disciplines regarding patient care, treatment and/or plan of care
