Respiratory Therapist - Per Diem
About The Position
Shriners Children’s is seeking a Per Diem Respiratory Therapist to provide family-centered, age-appropriate clinical cardio-pulmonary care. This role involves utilizing assessment findings to identify patient and family needs in collaboration with the healthcare team, communicating findings verbally and in writing, and seeking personal/professional development. The therapist will ensure the safe operation of life support equipment, perform other duties as required, and may take a leadership role or act as a clinical resource to other departments. Precepting staff is also a possibility after demonstrating proficiency. Participation in hospital/departmental committees, special projects, and research is expected.
Requirements
- CA RT Licensure
- BLS
- PALS (within 6 months of hire)
Nice To Haves
- 2 years pediatric experience
- National Registration by National Board for Respiratory Care
Responsibilities
- Ventilator management, high frequency ventilation, tracheostomy tube management, bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing, sedation, blood gas and indirect calorimetry.
- Provides primary respiratory care to patients from admission through discharge, and charts appropriately.
- Serves as a resource and provides education to students, nurses, and new employees as needed.
- Assures safe, cost-effective operation and function of pertinent equipment and utilizes appropriate infection control techniques in all areas.
