About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist (RT) position is a Per Diem role with variable shifts for Day, Evening, and Weekends. The role involves receiving and following schedules and instructions from supervisors, adhering to facility policies and procedures, and performing patient assessments and interventions. Key responsibilities include identifying patient needs, analyzing patient data, planning care outcomes, and implementing interventions. The RT must also adhere to emergency, safety, and infection control procedures, promote good communication, and report changes in patient status to relevant personnel. Maintaining resident confidentiality and assuming administrative authority for assigned duties are also crucial. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree from an accredited school.
  • Graduate of a respiratory care program.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner verification license for the state in which he/she practices (if applicable).
  • Current CPR/BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Knowledge of office machines and equipment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in the health care field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year respiratory experience in an acute and/or subacute unit.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and follow schedule/instructions from supervisor and as outlined in established policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Perform focused interview to identify specific patients’ needs.
  • Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data and information from health care members and document actual and/or potential diagnoses.
  • Plan for outcomes of care for assigned patients.
  • Perform interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and hospital policies and patient care outcome standards.
  • Adhere to emergency, safety, and infection control procedures of the facility.
  • Promote and participate in activities to facilitate good interpersonal communications.
  • Report changes in the patient’s respiratory status to the Director/Supervisor of Respiratory Care Services, the nurse primarily responsible for the patient, and the physician, as needed, and prior to leaving the facility.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility.
  • Agree not to disclose resident’s protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator.
  • Assume the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of performing the assigned duties of this position.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information.
  • Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.
