The Respiratory Therapist (RT) will utilize respiratory therapy processes to support patient assessment, including pulmonary diagnostics, chest radiograph interpretation, hemodynamic values, and laboratory values. They will correlate blood gases and electrolytes, identify and address special needs of specific patient populations, and operate specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care settings. The RT will assist physicians with bedside procedures, administer medication treatments per physician order or patient-driven protocols, and maintain equipment functionality. Responsibilities also include educating patients on therapy, disease management, and self-care, facilitating clinical problem-solving, and collaborating with other departments. The role requires adapting to policies and procedures across various service areas, performing required tasks, and maintaining performance standards. Effective communication, feedback, conflict resolution, and patient handoff are essential. Promoting a culture of safety by applying proper safety measures, reporting patient safety events, and assisting in corrective actions is also a key responsibility. Additionally, the RT will teach, educate, and precept new teammates, orientees, and students, demonstrating age-appropriate patient care knowledge and skills.
