About The Position

The Registered Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory therapy procedures to examine, diagnose, and treat patients with respiratory and pulmonary disorders. The therapist assesses patient condition and consults with physicians to determine appropriate treatment plans, monitors patient progress after procedures to evaluate treatment effectiveness, and documents patient care in accordance with departmental quality standards and regulations. The position is eligible for a $15,000 sign-on bonus.

Requirements

• Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Care.
• Licensed by the State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
• Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
• Associate’s degree or two-year degree required.
• Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC); candidates not registered at hire must obtain NBRC registration within two years of hire.
• Professional competency in respiratory care science commensurate with the NBRC credential.

Nice To Haves

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and/or Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS) certification.
• Prior experience.

Responsibilities

• Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff in a manner consistent with Jefferson’s values.
• Administer physician-prescribed respiratory therapy, including oxygen, respiratory medication, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), arterial blood gases (ABGs), and mechanical ventilation.
• Perform invasive and non-invasive evaluations to determine respiratory care needs and make recommendations based on department protocols to improve patient outcomes and facilitate discharge.
• Monitor patients requiring mechanical ventilation through clinical assessment, routine rounds, troubleshooting, weaning, airway care, and diagnostic testing.
• Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens for diagnosis, and measure patients’ lung capacity to identify impairments.
• Provide diagnostic results and treatment suggestions based on patient analysis.
• Communicate with other healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
• Ensure smooth operation of the PFT and ABG laboratory, and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
• Document patient care activities and ensure compliance with applicable quality-of-care standards and departmental regulations.
