About The Position

Child Serve is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide professional respiratory care to children, teens, and young adults as part of a multidisciplinary team in inpatient services, including pediatric rehabilitation and long-term complex medical units. This is a part-time position scheduled for two shifts per week, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Within the respiratory therapy scope of practice, physician orders, and each child’s care plan, the therapist makes care decisions and delivers a full range of respiratory therapy services. The role also includes maintaining timely and accurate records, communicating with children and their care teams, keeping current with unit and organization information, providing training as needed, and responsibly using equipment, supplies, and the work environment.

Requirements

• Certification from an accredited respiratory therapy program.
• Current licensure to practice in the state of Iowa.
• Current CPR/BLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Ventilator experience.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, move within the assigned work area, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English in reading, writing, and speaking.

Nice To Haves

• Pediatric experience.
• PALS certification.
• Experience with tracheostomy care and changes.

Responsibilities

• Make care decisions and deliver respiratory therapy within the scope of practice, physician orders, and the child’s care plan.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records in accordance with respiratory therapy standards and Child Serve policies and procedures.
• Communicate professionally and respectfully with children, physicians, families, school personnel, Child Serve staff, and others to ensure care needs are assessed, communicated, and met.
• Stay current with unit-specific and Child Serve information.
• Provide respiratory and related training to children, families, and staff as needed.
• Demonstrate good stewardship of Child Serve equipment, supplies, and environment.
