Provide respiratory care services in accordance with physician orders, departmental protocols and policies and procedures under the supervision of the System Director or designated charge therapist. This role involves administering respiratory therapy treatments, managing mechanical ventilators, performing blood gas sampling and analysis, conducting pulmonary function testing, assisting with bronchoscopy, obtaining EKGs, checking patient's own respiratory equipment, delivering oxygen tanks, cleaning equipment, and obtaining nasal specimens. The position also emphasizes patient rights, confidentiality, and effective communication. The therapist will be responsible for organizing and prioritizing workload, maintaining composure during crisis situations, assessing patient needs, and developing a plan of care. Professional conduct, accurate documentation, and patient education are key aspects of the role. The therapist will also participate in quality improvement activities, adhere to safety and infection control policies, and may assist with orienting new employees and students. The ability to assume the role of charge therapist and delegate tasks is also required.
