About The Position

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides direct and/or indirect patient care in the Cardiac Cath and EP Lab. The RRT assesses patients, administers pharmacological drugs within scope of practice as ordered, performs procedures, operates equipment necessary for assigned patient care, and assists physicians with procedures. The role requires familiarity with sterile technique, cath lab equipment and procedures, and radiation safety. The RRT provides care appropriate to the ages and developmental needs of patients served. This includes assessing patient status, interpreting relevant information, identifying age-specific requirements, and providing care according to unit policies and procedures. The position requires advanced knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology, including arrhythmia mechanisms, intracardiac signal interpretation, and electrical mapping principles. The therapist supports complex EP procedures such as ablation, device implantation, and electroanatomic mapping; uses EP-specific technologies; and analyzes electrophysiologic data in real time to support procedural decisions. Ongoing competency with evolving EP technologies and continuing education in electrophysiology are expected. Clinical competency is evaluated annually using mechanisms focused on the population-specific needs of the customers served.
