About The Position

The Respiratory Care Practitioner plans, executes, and evaluates respiratory care for assigned patients, using current evidence-based practices and tailoring care to patients’ physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity. Under the direction of the leadership team, the practitioner provides respiratory services in accordance with Riverside Health System standards of excellence and facility goals and strategic plans. The role includes assuring safe practices in accordance with National Patient Safety Goals and supporting best practices recommended by the American Association of Respiratory Care.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field.
• At least 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience.
• Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license with the Virginia Department of Health Professions, required upon hire.
• Certification as either a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the National Board for Respiratory Care, required upon hire.
• CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute, required upon hire.
• ACLS Provider certification from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute, required within 1 year.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, implement, and evaluate treatments and procedures that contribute to patients’ respiratory care plans.
• Use proper infection-control techniques in performing duties and follow departmental procedures.
• Work with physicians and nurses to create treatment plans.
• Evaluate patients’ progress with treatment.
• Complete documentation and ensure orders are current, completed, or discontinued.
• Participate in and assist with meetings, projects, and in-services related to improving Riverside Health System Respiratory Care Services.
