About The Position

Fairview is hiring a Respiratory Therapist to join our Respiratory Therapy team at our Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital location in Minneapolis, MN. This position is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services as prescribed by a physician, following defined treatment protocols according to department policies. The role involves collecting, assessing, interpreting, and intervening as appropriate in the care of neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, ensuring patient welfare and safety standards during treatments. The Respiratory Therapy department at the U of M Masonic Children's hospital is a dynamic, growing department with approximately 50 staff members. As part of a large, integrated, academic healthcare system, the Respiratory Therapist has an integral and dynamic role in the care of children. The department believes families are the child's primary strength and support, and Respiratory Therapists are key partners in the care team committed to delivering family-centered care. At the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital, the child comes first.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Care/Therapy or related field
  • Respiratory Therapist License issued by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Exceptions include: New Graduates only - must complete RRT within 6 months of hire date.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Care/Therapy or related field

Responsibilities

  • Assessing patient needs and identifies expected outcomes.
  • Implementing Respiratory interventions based on plan of care.
  • Evaluating care and the patient’s response to interventions and expected outcomes.
  • Delivering care as delegated by physician/authorized practitioner to assigned patient population, or individual patient.
  • Using communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes.
  • Operating and maintaining all Respiratory Care equipment.
