About The Position

The RRT supports the care and management of patients requiring invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Other responsibilities include advanced neonatal resuscitation and newborn airway management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and ABGS; assisting patients with their pre/post tracheotomy care and needs; liaising with the medical specialists. The RRT will provide respiratory therapy assessments, therapy discharge and care plans. The RRT is also a key member of the Code Blue team. The RRT will be required to attend patient and program meetings as well as communicate with appropriate home care vendors/clients. The Respiratory Therapist will work autonomously, make decisions and apply judgement in their day-to-day work. Acts as resource to the cardio-respiratory department. The RRT utilizes a multidisciplinary and collaborative team approach dedicated to the principles of patient and family centered care.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
  • Current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) and in good standing
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) exam
  • Valid BCLS and ACLS certifications
  • Valid NRP certification
  • Experience in respiratory rehabilitation; invasive and non-invasive ventilation and oxygen therapy and the application of the ADP forms with The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care
  • Recent experience in Adult Respiratory Care in advanced airway secretion clearance techniques and difficult airway management within the last 3 years.
  • Recent experience within an adult critical care setting within the last 3 years
  • Recent experience in Neonatal airway management and pediatric airway management within the last 3 years
  • Demonstrated proficiency in adult oral endotracheal intubation, adult arterial blood gas sampling, and adult tracheostomy management and care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the respiratory care, support and critical care management of adult critical care patients
  • Demonstrated knowledge and maintenance of respiratory, resuscitation and anesthesia related equipment
  • Demonstrated leadership and coordinator skills in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated creativity and innovation in the delivery of patient care
  • Demonstrated excellent skills in communication, organization and interaction with multiple health care team members and an understanding of other programs within HHS
  • Demonstrated commitment to family centered care

Nice To Haves

  • Post graduate education/certification in Asthma Education and/or COPD
  • Post graduate education/certification in Intensive Smoking Cessation
