The Respiratory Therapist will demonstrate knowledge in various modes and methods of oxygen delivery and the equipment needed for each. They will conduct prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve adequate oxygenation, administer therapeutic procedures understanding the purpose, benefits, and possible effects. The role involves performing diagnostic procedures, initiating, monitoring, and maintaining mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilators, and being aware of critical care duties and effects of such therapy. The therapist will independently evaluate current therapies using appropriate judgment and protocols, making proper recommendations concerning plans of care and patient education needs. They will document therapy and results as required by hospital, department, and regulatory agencies, and communicate information to appropriate members of the healthcare team. The position requires initiating, conducting, and modifying respiratory care techniques in an emergency setting, and performing and evaluating blood sampling analysis with a thorough understanding of the values and treatment of abnormal results. The therapist will work independently in all patient care areas and assist co-workers with patient care whenever possible. Proficiency in the electronic medical records and its interface with the Respiratory Care Department is necessary, along with following departmental safety guidelines and completing all regulatory requirements and annual proficiency evaluations.
