About The Position

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT), within the Ohio Scope of Practice, provides therapeutic procedures and diagnostic testing to chronically and acutely ill patients requiring respiratory procedures. The role involves providing Respiratory Care, ensuring a safe patient environment, promoting evidence-based practice and quality initiatives, and exhibiting professionalism in patient and family care. Responsibilities extend beyond routine care to initiating and administering therapeutic procedures, diagnostic tests, and education according to departmental policies. Accurate record-keeping of patient assessments and departmental data is essential. The position also includes precepting new employees and participating in student clinical rotations, demonstrating proficiency in maintaining respiratory therapy equipment. Effective communication and collaboration with physicians, house staff, and other healthcare disciplines regarding patient care plans are key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a 2 or 4 year Respiratory Care Program, or completion of additional educational requirements allowing eligibility to obtain registry credentials
  • Ohio Respiratory Care Professional License to practice in the State of Ohio
  • National Board of Respiratory Care credential indicating RRT or CRT
  • Clinical experience in adult and neonatal respiratory therapy procedures such as aerosolized delivery of medication, mechanical ventilation, assisting with intubations and extubations, pulmonary function studies, emergency care, and obtaining and interpreting arterial blood gases
  • Maintain current BLS certification

  • Record information/patient assessment on the patient’s medical record and maintain departmental records
  • Precept new employees as requested and participate in students clinical rotations
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to maintain respiratory therapy equipment
  • Communicate pertinent clinical information and collaborate with physicians, house staff and other health care disciplines regarding patient care, treatment and/or plan of care
