About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist will maintain knowledge of various oxygen delivery methods and equipment, remaining alert to potential side effects. They will be competent in assessing, treating, and caring for patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders, administering respiratory therapy treatments with an understanding of their purpose and risks. The role also involves performing Pulmonary Function testing, EKGs, and managing, operating, and cleaning equipment safely and correctly. The therapist will inspect and test equipment to ensure safe and efficient functioning and demonstrate knowledge of age-specific techniques and treatment modalities for neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, geriatrics, and the general population. Additionally, they will maintain knowledge of department forms, flow charts, and logs, and perform other duties as assigned by the department director.

Requirements

Current certification by the State of Florida (CRT/RRT) to practice as Respiratory Therapist; RRT preferred.
Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

Nice To Haves

PALS and Neonatal Resuscitation certifications preferred.
One year of previous experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintains knowledge of the various methods of oxygen delivery, including the necessary equipment.
Remains alert, assesses possible side effects to oxygen delivery.
Competent in the ability to assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders.
Administers respiratory therapy treatments, understands the purpose of each and any possible risks associated with the therapy.
Performs Pulmonary Function testing.
Maintains a thorough knowledge of all department forms, flow charts, logs and proper usage.
Performs all additional duties as assigned the department director.
Performs EKGs, properly inputs patient’s information on EKGs, makes sure EKGs are properly stored electronically, and monitor EKGs for abnormal patterns.
Manages, operate and cleans equipment safely and correctly.
Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on patients of varying ages, including neonate, pediatric adolescent, geriatric and the general population.
Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame.
Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.

Responsible for the safe handling of equipment as well as maintaining safety for themselves.
Knows the proper procedure for calling codes and the proper response for each code according to department protocol (i.e. fire, lock down, infant abduction, bomb threat, etc.).
Knows the proper procedure for reporting incidents involving the patient, visitor or employee.
Knows where to find SDS information when needed.
Is aware of hazards and hazardous materials and how to maintain a safe environment.
