About The Position
The Respiratory Therapist administers respiratory care through the Respiratory Care Department at Saint Mary's Hospital. The role involves exercising independent clinical judgment to deliver quality patient care and serving as a technical resource for physicians and other healthcare workers on current respiratory care practices. The therapist sets up, operates, and manages respiratory-care equipment, including mechanical ventilators, NIPPV/CPAP, and high-flow oxygen devices, and manages patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Care.
- At least a two-year Associate's degree.
- Current Connecticut Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Thorough knowledge of procedures and patient-care techniques involved in respiratory care.
Responsibilities
- Administer respiratory care offered by the Respiratory Care Department.
- Use independent clinical judgment in delivering quality patient care.
- Serve as a technical resource to physicians and other healthcare workers regarding current respiratory care practices.
- Set up, operate, and manage respiratory-related patient-care equipment, including mechanical ventilators, NIPPV/CPAP, and high-flow oxygen devices.
- Manage patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation, including AC, PSV, PC, APRV, and Bi-level modes.
