About The Position

Ingalls Memorial Hospital is hiring a second-year student in an approved Respiratory Care Program to provide basic respiratory care treatments and procedures under the proximal supervision of a licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist. The role includes assessing patients to determine cardiopulmonary status and implementing appropriate care protocols to maintain or improve cardiopulmonary hemodynamic status. Shifts are flexible and may be 12, 10, or 8 hours; the listed schedule requirement is four 12-hour shifts per six-week schedule.

Requirements

• Be a second-year student in an approved and accredited Respiratory Care Program, with evidence of continued enrollment.
• Demonstrate effective and accurate communication, documentation, and technical skills, both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

• ACLS certification.
• PALS certification.

Responsibilities

• Administer supplemental oxygen as prescribed by direct physician order or through established and approved departmental patient care protocols, and document procedures accurately.
• Administer intermittent therapies, including small-volume nebulizer and MDI treatments such as bronchodilators, steroid therapy, and mucolytics, as prescribed or under approved departmental protocols.
• Document treatments in real time and accurately in the EPIC electronic medical record.
• Assess and monitor patients during administration of respiratory therapies.
• Administer bronchopulmonary hygiene.
• Implement airway clearance techniques, including chest physiotherapy, coughing and deep-breathing techniques, Therapy Vest, EzPap device, Acapella device, and incentive spirometry, according to physician orders or approved departmental protocols.
• Document airway clearance procedures in EPIC according to hospital policy.
