About The Position

This position is for a Registered Respiratory Therapist at Trinity Health Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, MI, working a night shift. The role involves providing individualized respiratory care across the entire age continuum, assisting in improving overall patient care quality, and collaborating with the healthcare team. The therapist will also participate in staff orientation and student training programs. Key functions include demonstrating technical and clinical competence in adult critical care, applying patient care protocols, prioritizing therapy, communicating with healthcare providers, acting as a resource, ensuring accurate documentation and charges, assisting with equipment tracking and maintenance, and engaging in ongoing education to maintain skills and competency. The role requires maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to Trinity Health's Mission, Vision, and Values, while also ensuring personal and coworker safety.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program.
  • Registered as Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Current licensure to practice in the State of Michigan as Respiratory Therapist.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association.
  • Maintain Neonatal Resuscitation Practioner (NRP) and Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) certification (both required within 6 months of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized respiratory care for the entire age continuum.
  • Assist with facilitating improvement in the overall quality of patient care.
  • Utilize a multidisciplinary approach and collaborate with the entire health care team in coordinating services rendered to all patients.
  • Participate in orientation of staff and student training programs for Trinity Health System as a teaching institution representing the Respiratory Care department.
  • Demonstrate technical and clinical competence in adult critical care.
  • Apply patient care protocols and utilize assessment information to review and revise plan of care accordingly.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize therapy and patient care activities to meet changing demands.
  • Communicate with healthcare providers, units, and other customers on an ongoing basis to coordinate services and exceed customer service needs.
  • Act as a resource to physicians, nurses, and other team members to address clinical patient care concerns.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation/charges are entered for the correct patient, encounter, date/time of service per practice expectations and facilitate corrections as needed.
  • Assist with tracking and monitoring of equipment and request services for maintaining equipment as needed.
  • Participate in on-going education and take personal accountability to seek experiences in order to maintain skills/competency.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, associates, and visitors to Trinity Health System.
  • Discuss patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
  • Behave in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Trinity Health.
  • Assume responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
