About The Position

Jackson Purchase Medical Center is a 107 all private bed, Joint Commission-accredited facility. From emergent to elective, our facility offers a wide variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including those offered at the New Beginnings Birthing Center, the Advanced Healing Wound Care Center and our accredited chest pain center. The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) examines and treats patients with breathing-related conditions, performs diagnostic testing, and collaborates with physicians to develop and implement treatment plans. They provide patient education on therapies and medication use, and perform physiotherapy and related treatments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy required
• Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license in state of practice
• BCLS required
• Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision in stressful environments.
• Ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple clinical software systems.
• Effective English communication (read, write, speak, and understand).
• Ability to successfully complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

• ACLS, PALS, and NRP preferred.

Responsibilities

• Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer; may perform bedside PFTs, EKGs, and tobacco-cessation education as ordered.
• Delivers ordered respiratory therapies; monitors, records, and communicates patient condition and response to treatment.
• Responds to codes and emergent calls; assesses patient condition and provides appropriate interventions.
• Evaluates and contributes to respiratory care policies and procedures based on outcomes, research, and best practices.
• Educates patients and families on illness, treatments, device use, and community resources.
• Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory supplies and medical gas cylinders; maintains storage areas and equipment readiness.
• Disassembles, cleans, sterilizes, performs preventive maintenance, and calibrates respiratory equipment.
• Performs all responsibilities as needed to fulfill required service levels.
• Participates in performance improvement and required education.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
