About The Position

Within the context of a client and family-centred care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, and the vision and values of the organization, this position is designated as the Clinical Resource Therapist specializing in advanced practice interventions from a respiratory therapy perspective. Provides advanced practice, complex case consultation, clinical guidance and education for Respiratory Therapists and multidisciplinary staff working at the designated site; analyses literature and trends, develops clinical practice guidelines and recommends changes to modify/change current clinical practices. Monitors and updates Respiratory Therapy equipment and supplies regularly and provides education to RT staff re practice and or equipment updates. Initiates and participates in knowledge translation activities and facilitates an evidence based culture and community of practice. Carries a regularly assigned clinical caseload as part of the hospital’s Respiratory Therapy team.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Successful completion of the Health Professionals Testing Canada Credentialing Exam.
  • Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists.
  • Five (5) years' recent, related experience as an advanced practitioner and/or clinical instructor in advanced respiratory therapy interventions, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of respiratory therapy theory, and practice within a client and family centred model.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based respiratory therapy practice.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of BCSRT and CSRT standards of practice and guidelines.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current respiratory care practices.
  • Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to support learning in a clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legislation as pertaining to respiratory therapy practice.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable VCH clinical practice guidelines, policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of teaching/guiding/coaching approaches and strategies to include tele-health and on-line mediums.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of knowledge translation process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability in evidence based practices and ability to demonstrate, teach, orient and/or train.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with (both verbally and in writing), and to deal effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care professionals, clients and their families, and external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member, mentor, coach and facilitator.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
