The Licensed Respiratory Therapist assesses, implements, and evaluates the delivery of respiratory care services utilizing processes in accordance with hospital standards and department policies for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating patient status. This role involves providing care effectively to patients in critical care areas, including mechanical ventilation, invasive/non-invasive, while monitoring and measuring patient parameters. The position also includes ventilator maintenance and setting changes, monitoring patient response, and performing computer entry, verifying physician orders, and documenting pertinent clinical information. Accurate documentation in the medical record according to policy is essential. The therapist will communicate effectively with the healthcare team, demonstrate professional judgment, and may delegate and supervise tasks to appropriate staff members. This role also involves establishing effective relationships with patients, families, and medical staff, supporting departmental/hospital goals, and responding to emergencies like code blues and RIT/CRIT calls. Participation in mentoring new personnel and improving patient outcomes is also expected. This position is identified as a safety-sensitive position under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Use and Patient Protection Act.
