About The Position
Under the direction of the Professional Practice Leader for Respiratory Therapy, the Respiratory Therapist provides services related to pulmonary diagnostic testing, respiratory therapy, and critical care services. They contribute to the development and evaluation of clinical materials, program planning and procedures, and inventory control by providing feedback and input. The role also requires maintaining knowledge of current developments in respiratory therapy as required by the employer. The Respiratory Therapist assesses, develops, implements, and evaluates Respiratory Therapy care for patients, documenting treatment plans and outcomes. They manage oxygen therapy initiation, monitoring, and discontinuation. This role involves conducting pulmonary function testing and maintaining equipment calibration, as well as assisting Physicians with bronchoscopy procedures and sample procurement. The therapist performs various procedures including arterial line insertions and blood gas punctures, and conducts weaning protocols for patients on respiratory modalities. They accompany patients during inter/intra hospital transport requiring respiratory support, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to procedure development. Finally, the role includes completing health record reports and workload statistics, and providing clinical supervision and evaluation for students.
Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy
- Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) Certified
- Effective communication with patients/residents, families, staff, physicians, and healthcare providers.
- Proficiency in performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures.
- Ability to gather relevant data and conduct multi-dimensional assessments.
- Competence in conducting patient/resident assessments.
- Understanding of other healthcare disciplines and their roles.
- Skill in eliciting information to understand patient/resident situations thoroughly.
- Independence in prioritizing workload and tasks.
- Participation in research activities.
- Supervision and teaching of students.
- Development and delivery of in-services and presentations.
