About The Position

MercyOne North Iowa is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join their team. This position is responsible for administering routine respiratory care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients across various clinical areas including general acute care, intensive care, emergency department, surgical suites, recovery rooms, and skilled nursing facilities. The role involves performing a wide range of procedures such as incentive spirometry, aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, pulmonary drainage, BIPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, therapeutic bronchoscopy, co-oximetry, EKGs, Holter monitoring, Zio patches, intubation assist, extubation, blood gas analysis, outpatient testing, and suctioning. The therapist will assess patients, respond to resuscitation and rapid response pages, perform basic spirometry and EKGs, and provide patient education. This role also involves assisting with community events related to Respiratory Care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; or associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science required.
  • Graduate of respiratory therapy program required or board-eligible within a few months of graduation.
  • Credentialed by the NBRC at the Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist level required.
  • Current Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure in the state of Iowa required.
  • CAPRS and N95 fit testing validation within 30 days of hire required.
  • Must have demonstrated competence in Respiratory Care.
  • Must be able to read, write and/or speak English.

Responsibilities

  • Administration of routine respiratory care to all pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Performing incentive spirometry, aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, pulmonary drainage procedures, BIPAP/CPAP, ventilator management, therapeutic bronchoscopy, co-oximetry, ekg, holter, zio, intubation assist, extubation, blood gas, outpatient testing, and suctioning.
  • Assessing patients receiving Respiratory Care using bedside assessment technique and knowledge of indications, contraindications, hazards of procedures and actions/reactions of medications.
  • Responding to and being a team member of resuscitation and rapid response pages.
  • Performing basic spirometry procedures, electrocardiograms, arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.
  • Providing patient education and assisting with community events dealing with Respiratory Care.
