North Alabama Shoals Hospital is a 198-bed general acute care facility boasting spacious, private rooms for all patients, a 24-hour emergency department, medical and oncology services; medical/surgical inpatient units; and short-stay surgery units. Shoals also operates the region’s only in-patient acute rehabilitation facility, the J. W. Sommer Rehabilitation Unit, and the Shoals Senior Care Center, the Shoals’ only psychiatric unit dedicated to our senior adults. Respiratory Therapist – Certified Position Summary Examines patients with breathing-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing. Consults with physicians to develop and implement treatment plans. Performs therapies and educates patients on medication use and respiratory health. Reports to the Director or Manager of Department.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy required.
  • Current CRT or RRT license in state of practice; BCLS required.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS, PALS, and NRP preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
  • Performs bedside PFTs, EKGs, and tobacco cessation education as ordered.
  • Delivers and evaluates patient response to therapy per plan of care.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition appropriately.
  • Responds to codes and emergent calls for respiratory assistance. Provides rapid assessment and appropriate intervention.
  • Educates patients and families about illness management and community resources.
  • Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on outcomes, research, and best practices.
  • Stocks and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders; maintains storage areas with required levels and equipment.
  • Cleans, sterilizes, maintains, and calibrates equipment.
  • Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
  • Provides quality patient care and works flexible shifts/units as needed.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
