Respiratory Therapist 1
About The Position
Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking a Respiratory Therapist 1 to provide respiratory care as part of its healthcare team. This is a full-time position scheduled for 36 hours per week, including rotating weekends. Sign-on and relocation bonuses are available. The therapist administers respiratory interventions, establishes and manages mechanical ventilation, performs and reviews ventilator weaning, and develops or refines ventilator care plans in collaboration with the patient care team. The role also includes formulating patient care plans based on diagnostic data, response to therapy, and physiological profiles, while ensuring care is consistent with departmental standards.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited CoARC (The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) respiratory program.
- CRT certification upon start.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon start.
- Virginia respiratory therapist license upon start.
Responsibilities
- Administer advanced respiratory therapeutic interventions, such as heliox, nitric oxide, CNB, and Chest Wall Oscillation, with moderate proficiency and occasional supervision.
- Establish and manage basic mechanical ventilation using commonly used ventilators with high proficiency and minimal to no supervision.
- Use complex forms of mechanical ventilation, including HFO, NPPV, PRVC, and transport ventilation, with moderate proficiency and occasional supervision.
- Perform ordered weaning mechanics with high proficiency for more than 90 percent of ventilator patients cared for.
- Review the daily need for continued ventilator support, including spontaneous breathing trials and weaning, for more than 90 percent of patients cared for.
- Develop or refine ventilator care plans and communicate them to the patient care team.
- Formulate patient care plans based on diagnostic data, response to therapy, and physiological profiles.
- Ensure therapeutic plans are sound and consistent with departmental standards of care.
