About The Position

This internship provides an opportunity to make an impact on a meaningful scale by supporting the healthcare needs of the people of Memphis and the Mid-South. The role involves ensuring all areas of the assigned facility are equipped with the necessary equipment and supplies for optimal patient care, while adhering to Infection Control guidelines. The intern will maintain inventory, deliver supplies, and contribute to the overall utilization of hospital resources. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a college program for Respiratory Therapy
  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association certification
  • Ability to understand moderately complex written materials, such as patient records.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with Associates, Physicians, and other outside professionals.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects while maintaining control of workflow.
  • Ability to perform technical skills as required with disassembly/re-assembly of equipment/supplies.
  • Ability to understand principles and implement basic procedures of infection control and aseptic technique.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and exercise initiative and independent judgment once technical training has been completed.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency or critical situations.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with patients and families in a professional manner.
  • Must be competent to perform all job functions by the end of orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors, inventories, and restocks equipment/supplies throughout the hospital as needed.
  • Maintains PAR levels to ensure adequate inventory of sterile and unsterile supplies are readily available.
  • Fills inventory supply requisitions and delivers supplies.
  • Participates in annual physical inventory.
  • Processes returned items appropriately.
  • Understands, applies, and supports departmental/hospital policies, procedures and standards.
  • Performs general housekeeping functions.
  • Maintains hospital, DNV and other quality control standards with subsequent records of sterilization procedures.
  • Ensures safe operation of equipment.
  • Maintains equipment and work area.
  • Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors.
  • Performs quality control checks.
