About The Position

The Clinical Coordinator serves as a role model and resource for providing clinical and operational leadership. As a direct patient care provider, this position delivers expert care in all clinical settings. It instructs, applies, and mentors staff in advanced level technical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving strategies to intervene in complex patient care situations. The role advocates for appropriate patient therapy and is competent in directing and planning shift assignments and workflow. The position contributes to the development of education content for the completion of required competency/training and presents formal education as assigned by leadership. The Clinical Coordinator is a Super User for advanced technology, maintaining and documenting staff completion as assigned by the super user specialty group. They contribute to drafting department policy and procedure and participate in Performance Improvement processes and monitoring.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree - Respiratory Therapy or other related field and a graduate of a school of Respiratory Therapy approved by the American Medical Association or successor accrediting authority.
• 3 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, with 1 year at Prisma Health (working in Adult or Children's Hospital Critical Care).
• Must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in South Carolina.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
• BLS required.
• NBRC credentials must be maintained.
• AARC Membership Required.
• Basic computer skills.
• Data entry.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's preferred.
• Certifications required may include any or all of the following depending on the unit: ACLS, NRP, FCCS, CAM class or PALS.
• Bachelor’s Degree or Specialty Certification/ECMO or Transport Team (ACCS, RPFT, ECMO Specialist, NPS, Transport Cert, etc).

Responsibilities

• Provides clinical patient care in adult acute and critical care, pediatric, E.D. and Trauma respiratory care services, applications, procedures, and equipment.
• Performs basic shift leader functions: Determine staffing workload needs using EMR staffing reports, Prepare and distribute staff assignments using EMR reports, Assess and re-deploy staffing levels throughout the shift as needed, Assure appropriate staffing levels for oncoming shift using EMR.
• Performs basic and advanced cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures and calculations, collects and interprets data to facilitate objective patient assessment and effective care planning. Assists other health care professionals in the interpretation and clinical application of results.
• Monitors and evaluates patient care plan as indicated by the patient’s medical condition. Communicates relevant findings to physicians, coworkers, and nursing staff as appropriate and recommends modifications per department policies and protocols. Completes clinical documentation and appropriate billing in the hospital Electronic Medical Record before the end of shift.
• Researches evidence-based clinical and operational practices, reports and corrects patient safety issues. Uses the chain of command as appropriate. Assures feedback communication and action planning for Patient Occurrence Reporting System.
• Assures standardized handoff for patient care services to the oncoming and off-going shift RCP. Escalates safety and outcome issues to Clinical Supervisor.
• Assists with orientation and technical competency for RCS staff, new hires, medical staff, nursing, and RC students as assigned.
