About The Position

The Respiratory Care Practitioner administers ordered respiratory medications and treatments, performs respiratory therapies and diagnostic procedures, and maintains patients’ airways and oxygenation. The role includes setting up, managing, and documenting ventilators according to manufacturer specifications and department policies, procedures, and protocols. The position is per diem and floats between Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital and Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Requirements

• California Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license.
• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• PALS certification from the American Heart Association.
• NRP certification within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Administer aerosolized respiratory medications and chest percussion as ordered.
• Document completed and uncompleted ordered respiratory treatments, therapies, diagnostic tests, and procedures.
• Establish and maintain a clear patient airway appropriate to the patient’s condition.
• Maintain proper oxygen titration levels for patients receiving ventilator support and for non-ventilated patients in respiratory distress.
• Set up, administer, manage, and document ventilators according to manufacturer specifications and department policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Complete all assigned educational programs, tests, and classes.
• Perform clinical and diagnostic procedures according to established policies and procedures.
