About The Position

Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical Center is seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner to provide essential respiratory care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. This role is vital for critical respiratory interventions and patient well-being. The practitioner will perform a range of duties including arterial punctures, continuous ventilation, airway maintenance, emergency care, infection control, isolation procedures, mechanical ventilator operation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and medical gas administration. Success in this role requires advanced clinical skills, meticulous attention to detail, a strong commitment to patient safety and infection control, and the ability to perform effectively in emergencies. The practitioner will ensure patient care is appropriate, effective, and timely, and that communications and interactions with patients and other caregivers are appropriate and timely. They will also ensure patient and family education is accurate, culturally sensitive, and performed in a timely manner, and that diagnostic test results are accurate and reported promptly. Maintaining all related equipment in optimal working order per policy and regulatory requirements is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • At least 20 hours of didactic training (including STABLE certificate) focused on neonatal care
  • Able to show competencies in providing care in NICU setting under a preceptorship process (or equivalent) of at least 4 weeks
  • CA AHA Basic Life Support - CPR
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • Fire Safety, within 90 Days

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Of Science in Respiratory Therapy or Bachelors Of Science in Respiratory Care
  • 2 years acute care experience including, pediatrics, trauma, and ventilator management
  • Blood gas and pulmonary function testing experience desirable
  • Experience with extended and managed care desirable
