About The Position

The Respiratory Care Apprentice supports WakeMed’s Respiratory Care team by keeping respiratory equipment patient-ready, workspaces efficient, and supplies available. This hands-on role provides exposure to respiratory care operations across adult, pediatric, and neonatal settings while helping the apprentice build a clinical foundation alongside an experienced team. The position is exclusively for students currently enrolled in Wake Technical Community College’s Respiratory Therapy program. Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited program. The role includes inventory and supply management, respiratory equipment setup, equipment performance monitoring, inspection tracking, and support for preventive maintenance. Apprentices are also expected to demonstrate WakeMed’s WakeWay behaviors, including respect, teamwork, accountability, communication, and continuous improvement. Requirements

Currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program at Wake Technical Community College (Wake Tech).
Strong desire to learn and grow in a clinical environment.
Attention to detail, accountability, and a team-first mindset.

Nice To Haves

One year of equipment maintenance experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintain inventory of respiratory equipment and supplies.
Place orders, verify shipments, manage receipts, and document inventory accurately.
Prepare and set up respiratory equipment and confirm its basic functionality.
Monitor and evaluate equipment performance.
Assist with tracking required equipment inspections.
Communicate equipment issues in accordance with policy.
Support Clinical Engineering with preventive maintenance.
