About The Position

Humane World for Animals, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking a Resources and Logistics Specialist for the Global Animal Rescue Team. In this position you will support animal rescue and response operations by managing the movement, staging, distribution, and tracking of equipment, fleet vehicles, and supplies, on Animal Rescue Team deployments. This role works closely with leadership and field teams to ensure resources are delivered efficiently, safely, and in alignment with established response procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • 5 years Inventory management, warehouse logistics, or similar experience required;
  • Professional driving experience or a CDL preferred, or the desire and ability to complete CDL training and maintain a valid CDL after employment;
  • Successful completion of Fear Free Shelters, FEMA courses IS100, IS200, IS700 and IS800 within 3 months of employment; other resposne training as required;
  • A valid driver’s license is required and a clean driving record is strongly preferred, with the ability to demonstrate and maintain a safe driving record while employed. A Commercial Driver’s License is highly desirable;
  • Willing and able to travel and work a flexible schedule as needed. Occasional travel may be on short notice, and may be by plane or vehicle, intermittently pulling a trailer or driving a larger custom animal rescue vehicle;
  • Ability to work independently or as a team and clearly communicate operational and individual needs; contribute to the culture of teamwork and togetherness and exemplify team and organizational norms;
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift and pallet jack or learn to satisfactorily operate them by successfully completing training within 6 months of employment;
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), ability to use other technology or computer/cell phone applications;
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;

  • Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a current and organized inventory of deployable animal care and disaster response resources including but not limited to animal housing and capture tools, swiftwater/slackwater rescue equipment, crime scene processing supplies, and safety equipment;
  • Organize and prepare shipments of equipment and supplies to and from ART operations and work with vendors to secure freight shipping. Coordinate staff as needed or personally participate in equipment and asset relocation, and monitor the status and movement of shipments. Maintain an accounting of the location of equipment between ART operations including deployed or “on loan” equipment;
  • Maintain Animal Rescue Team fleet vehicles, which include trailers, diesel and gas fueled trucks, vans, tractors, custom animal transport/rescue vehicles and boats. Ensure vehicles are adequately stocked and weatherized, schedule maintenance, and perform routine upkeep. Operate vehicles as needed on deployments;
  • Work with animal care, field response, and safety staff to identify resources needed for deployment. Proactively organize deployable “kits” to be prepared for rapid deployment and assist in the development of tactical and strategic preparedness and response plans;
  • Supervise volunteers and contract staff or personally participate in set ups and break downs for field and temporary shelter operations, including Points of Distribution, temporary animal sheltering locations, field rescue command centers and other operations, as assigned, in a wide variety of environments;
  • Coordinate with property owners and managers regarding Animal Rescue Team temporary shelter needs, facility maintenance and repairs, and utilities;
  • Contribute to the training and development of Animal Rescue Team members with regard to use of equipment, driving and utilizing transport or other Humane World for Animals vehicles, connecting trailers, operating generators, operation of disaster response boats and other equipment;
  • Performs other duties or responsibilities, as assigned.
