About The Position

Wacousta Elementary is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team in a full-time capacity within the Resource Room. This position is designed for those who are passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs and fostering an inclusive educational environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with students, teachers, and parents to provide tailored instructional support and create a positive learning atmosphere that promotes academic and social growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation, as well as familiarity with various instructional strategies and interventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to the dynamic needs of the classroom.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid teaching certification or endorsement in Special Education preferred.
  • Prior experience working with students with diverse learning needs, preferably in an elementary school setting.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify students who require additional support and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) or intervention strategies.
  • Provide direct instruction to students in the Resource Room, focusing on academic skills, social skills, and emotional support.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional methods and materials as needed to ensure effective learning outcomes.
  • Create a welcoming and organized learning environment that accommodates various learning styles and needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and participation, as well as prepare reports for parents and school administration.
  • Facilitate communication between parents, teachers, and support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to each student's education.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and instructional strategies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives that promote inclusivity and support for all students.
  • Provide support during school activities, such as field trips, assemblies, and other events, to ensure all students can participate fully.
