About The Position

Join the Resource Planning team and have a direct impact on the future of energy in Colorado! As an entry level resource planning analyst, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to study the existing PSCo electric system, emerging generating technologies in Colorado, and support the development of an electric resource plan that prioritizes safe, clean, reliable, and affordable energy for Xcel’s customers. In this role, the candidate will gain valuable knowledge of the energy industry as well as exposure to various departments throughout Xcel, including generation and transmission planning and modeling, operations, legal and regulatory, and more. The candidate will have the opportunity to support the ongoing development of the current electric resource plan and learn how generation resources are modeled and evaluated for selection. As part of this task, they will study the benefits of location and resource diversity and the importance of reliability when planning the future of Xcel’s portfolio of resources. They will also learn how external changes such as generation technology and electrification advancements impact the needs of the system and how Xcel plans to meet those needs. This role will expose them to the regulated utility environment, providing the opportunity to see how Xcel engages with stakeholders, works to keep costs low, and considers the societal impact of resource planning through Just Transition goals. This position will provide the candidate with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the energy industry while directly contributing to an exciting future for Colorado.

Requirements

  • Current student, Junior or higher
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Operations Research, Mathematics, or Business
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.
