About The Position

Motivated by God’s love, The Salvation Army CRS is dedicated to nurturing a safe, compassionate, healthy and respectful community. Crossroads Residential Services is dedicated to providing a safe, stable and positive residential setting for men in crisis, respecting cultural and religious diversity. Residential Worker will support individuals struggling with homelessness in Saskatoon.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school is required.
  • First Aid/CPR
  • Criminal Record including Vulnerable Sector
  • Driver’s license including drivers abstract
  • Minimum six months’ experience in a setting working with marginalized clientele
  • Working knowledge of computers including Microsoft 365
  • Able to communicate in a clear and concise manner with residents, staff, professionals, and members of the public while maintaining confidentiality, fairness, and respect.
  • Ability to develop and sustain professional working relationships with residents, members of the public, other agencies and staff, keeping strict confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.
  • Ability to deal with difficult people.
  • Physically able to lift up to 25 to 50 lbs.
  • Ability and willingness to respect, promote, and support the mission, vision, and values of TSA and develop an understanding of the purpose of the Salvation Army in Canada and its implication as related to position responsibilities.
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Strong understanding of professional boundaries when working with a vulnerable population.
  • Strong listening, written, and verbal communication skills – clear and simple to understand.
  • Able to proactively recognize potential risks, conflicts, and issues, respond with solutions and coaching.

  • Narcan/Naloxone Training or willingness to obtain.

  • Experience working within the field of Mental Health and Addictions is a strong asset.
  • Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Bible School or Outdoor Leadership program is considered an asset
  • Knowledgeable of Indigenous culture and spirituality, as well as of other faith backgrounds is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to residents ensuring that their spiritual, emotional, psychological, and physical needs are met
  • Strictly follow program policies and procedures and must be able to implement these into daily tasks
  • Ensure that the environment of the program is supportive, nurturing, and encourages a high degree of resident involvement including decision making
  • Be aware of all residents and their activities (including Wilderness Therapy Program), and follow through with case plans, expectations, and required programming
  • Ensure quality presentation of meals and snacks as required on shift, while maintaining a high level of cleanliness of the eating and cooking area’s and assisting residents with nutritional needs
  • Cleaning and sanitizing as necessary and ensuring the safety of the property
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner
  • Document business requirements, process and report as needed.
  • Fill out incident reports as necessary
  • Develop and document options and recommendations to issues and problems.
  • Other duties as assigned by Lead Chaplain
