About The Position

This position with APD will serve staff and management across the Agency. Your work will impact the workplace culture, our community, and the population we serve as we continuously strive to achieve the Agency’s mission. This position primarily provides direct support and services to residents with developmental disabilities while maintaining their overall safety and well-being. This position may be required to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency.

Requirements

  • A valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be willing to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency.
  • Must maintain certification in Prevention and Safety Strategies, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Direct Care In-Service.
  • Must be able to physically operate all applicable equipment to perform essential job functions.
  • Must be willing and able to provide hands-on assistance to residents with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene and grooming (such as bathing, toileting, and dressing).
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to assist with evacuation of residents during an emergency.
  • Must be able to work around cleaning supplies.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, turn, kneel, stoop, squat, push, pull, lift, and walk extended distances.
  • Knowledge of methods of instructing and providing care to others.
  • Knowledge of using appropriate safety techniques in personal hygiene, grooming, and other activities of daily living.
  • Ability to lift up to forty pounds.
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures.
  • Ability to complete reports, prepare charts, and records.
  • Ability to read, teach, and implement residents’ support plans, formal and informal programs/interventions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a home-like setting.
  • Ability to implement prescribed treatment plans including behavior modification activities.
  • Ability to instruct others in recreational activities.
  • Demonstrate Skills in providing direct care and support.

Nice To Haves

  • Corrective Lenses Restricted License is acceptable (the corrective lenses must be worn while operating a state vehicle).

Responsibilities

  • Implement active treatment and skill acquisition programs for residents.
  • Maintain reports and suggest improvements as appropriate.
  • Follow approved individualized behavior support plans utilizing approved intervention strategies and therapy programs and profiles.
  • Implement appropriate recreation and leisure activities for residents.
  • Communicate with staff during shift change regarding significant resident-related information.
  • Accurately document resident information, provide valuable input, make suggestions for improvements, and participate in meetings and discussions concerning residents’ needs, goals, and objectives.
  • Complete residents’ Personal Possession Inventory accurately and monthly as assigned.
  • Perform mealtime procedures by strictly adhering to each resident’s mealtime program with the proper diet and the use of necessary adaptive equipment.
  • Perform appropriate first aid for residents’ injuries and illnesses.
  • Accurately complete Incident Reports and document illnesses and injuries within one (1) hour of occurrence and maintain compliance with policies and procedures related to reporting resident injuries.
  • Transport and/or escort residents to and from on-campus activities, community trips, and appointments, and emergency visits to the hospital.
  • Attend mandatory and in-service training as required, and other staff meetings as necessary.
  • Complete annual health screening.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
